Sony Ericsson X2 Spotted?

A tipster tells us that the device you're looking at here is Sony Ericsson's codename "Vulcan" -- better known as the X2 -- which would presumably replace the X1 at some point in the next few days, weeks, months, or years. Though the picture's small, you can clearly make out the X Panel button in the lower left of the phone's front and a Windows key in the upper left of the keyboard, which adds a dose of credibility -- the company has, after all, put quite a bit of time and effort into pimping its panel interface SDK, and right now, the X1 is the only device that supports it. The image looks a little rough around the edges, but we can easily chalk that up to this being either a composite mockup or a very early prototype combined with the fact that our tipster seems to have blanked out the surroundings to protect the source. We're not saying it's definitely real, but this certainly looks plausible -- we're just not convinced yet that it looks better than the model it'd replace. Thoughts?

BlackBerry Storm 2 gets pictured early

We knew it was coming, and just like its relatives the Onyx and the Gemini, yet another unreleased model has managed to escape the confines of RIM's Waterloo headquarters. This time, however, it's the Storm 2, which we've heard has been internally codenamed "Oden." We've also caught wind that this model pictured is of the GSM flavor, and yes, it's indeed packing WiFi in addition to GPS according to one of our sources. As far as that rumored "new approach to text entry," it sounds like the keyboard has been tweaked but isn't a radical departure from the first generation. From the photos, it seems that RIM has advanced in the war on buttons and axed the bottom four in favor of some touch-sensitive controls. The real improvements, however, appear to be under the hood, as the whole device reportedly runs much faster and smoother than the current model. We can't confirm these specs, but with the Tour coming this summer, and the Storm 2 hopefully making an appearance before the holiday shopping season, looks like you Verizon BlackBerry fans might not have to be that jealous of your GSM brethren after all. One more pic after the break.Source...

New pictures of the LG enV3 and LG enV Touch

With the new Verizon Rebate Form listing the LG enV3, everyone is hoping that it will be out soon. We've seen a few images of the Slate Blue enV3 in the past, but now we have a picture of the Maroon version. There are also two images showing the inside of the LG enV3 and LG enV Touch and what their internal Main Menu will look like.

The LG enV3 will feature a 3MP camera with LED flash, QWERTY keyboard, 2.5mm headset jack, larger external display, QVGA internal display, stereo speakers, Bluetooth and microSD support.

The LG enV Touch will have two WVGA displays, with the external one being touch-sensitive, 3MP autofocus camera with LED flash and Schneider Kreuznach lens, QWERTY keyboard, 3.5mm headset jack, stereo speakers, Bluetooth, and microSD support. VCast Mobile TV (MediaFLO) is no longer included.

Video: Palm Pre Unboxed

We don't know where, when, or by whom this was filmed, but it looks very real to us, confirming our earlier suspicions that the Pre will be packaged in a box. Update:

It's from CES says Josh T. It's the same difference to me, because I am indifferent to unboxing, but if this isn't a final retail package, etc, it apparently has no ceremonial value.

Upcoming iPhone specs leaked -- 600MHz CPU, 32GB, 3.2MP cam?

Take this for what it is -- a totally unverified rumor from a Chinese forum -- but a set of specs for a next-gen iPhone have leaked out along with this screenshot, and they're not entirely far-fetched. According to the alleged leak, iPhone model MB717LL 9 ("iPhone2,1" perhaps?) will have a 600MHz processor (up from the current 400MHz unit), 256MB of RAM (from the current 128MB), 32GB of storage, a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus, as well as a digital compass and FM radio, all while retaining the same battery, basic shape, and screen size. Do we believe it? Well, if we were to conservatively guess at specs for a next-gen Apple phone that's pretty much what we'd come up with -- with the exception of FM -- so we're not shaking our heads too hard. Plus we've definitely seen evidence that a compass will figure into the equation, and there's endless whispers that the camera will see an upgrade. Still, only Steve and the gang know for sure, and we're (probably) not finding out till they're ready -- WWDC, are you here yet?

Palm Pre Box Shots Unearthed

Ooooooh, now if this isn’t something that gets you salivating even more for the Palm (NSDQ: PALM) Pre, I’m not sure what else will. That’s right, more than a few images of the Palm Pre packaging (and materials found inside) have emerged. There’s nothing like unboxing a new device, and these pics are making me want that Pre in my hands as soon as possible (Yes, I’m a geek, I know!).

You can go ahead and check out all of the pics below. Some are a tad on the boring side, but you’ll see the front/back of the packaging, and a quick look at the materials found inside. If you’re getting keyed up for the Pre, this is worth a gander.

Nokia revealed its latest smart phone E52

Nokia introduced its latest E series device, the Nokia E52–a voice-centric smartphone. The E52 can either be thought of as a massive update to the popular E51 or a traditional number-key candybar version of the bigger E75
The Nokia E52 is an S60 smartphone with a 2.4″ 240 x 320 pixel display, a 3.2 megapixel “full focus” camera with LED flash, 3.5G support and WiFi, a multimedia player, an FM radio, microSD expandable memory, Bluetooth and a standard 3.5mm audio socket. In fact, the E52 is almost completely identical to the recently announced Nokia E55 apart from the more traditional keypad. Ovi service support, noise cancellation and a new email user interface that can be found on the Nokia E75 as well - guess this means you can consolidate up to 10 email accounts. Nokia claims that the E52 is equipped with an “impressive battery life” that ought to last for up to 8 hours of non-stop yakking.

The E52 is expected to go on sale during the second half of the year for 245 Euros (around $325 U.S.). The smartphone will be available in metal gray or golden aluminum and will ship with a 1GB microSD card and a complimentary 60-day to File on Ovi.

Samsung Houdini - T-Mobile’s third Android phone?

A phone named after the great Harry Houdini has to be a cool one, right? Add a touch of Android, plus Samsung’s know-how, and you probably have a real winner there.

What am I talking about? Well, it looks like T-Mobile USA is getting ready to launch a so-called Samsung Houdini later this year.

The handset is part of T-Mo’s Android line-up, and, according to a document found at CellPhoneSignal, it will be released sometime in the fall, several months after the G2 / Magic / MyTouch 3G.

Details about the Samsung Houdini are scarce for the moment, but the handset looks somewhat similar to the Samsung i7500 – so it might be its US edition.

The above-seen document also unveils the possible contract price of MyTouch 3G: $179 – just like the current price of T-Mobile G1 (which, by the way, will be sold for only $149 starting… this month?).

All in all, good news for T-Mobile’s subscribers in the US. Source...

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 on the works

It seems that the X1 from Sony Ericsson is finally getting a successor, at least that are the findings of a CEO of a supplier of Sony Ericsson. The X2 is just like the X1 using Windows Mobile. It was Ted Morgan, CEO of Skyhook Wireless, that said this during an interview with GigaOM. Skyhook supplies the so-called geo location data to among others Apple. Morgan also indicated that the X2 is using the services of Skyhook to determine your location in Google Maps.
Besides this information not much is known about the successor of the XPERIA X1. Except the fact that Sony Ericsson again has chosen to use Windows Mobile, and that the X2 therefore is not the first device of the joint venture using Android.Source...

Nokia N97 release date

I've been watching this one closely. From the moment Nokia announced the Nokia N97 I've been eager to get my hands on one. The spec got me salivating. Check this out:

  • 5.0 Megapixel Digital Camera with Carl Zeis lens and duel LED flash.
  • 32GB Onboard Memory!!!
  • Wi-Fi Connectivity.
  • Assisted GPS.
  • HSDPA.
  • PUSH Email
  • TV-output, Video Player, and Video Recorder.
  • Full-Size slide out QWERTY Keyboard.

  • 32GB onboard memory, that's amazing, even twice the size of the largest iPhone available. Apparently it will also be capable of accepting a 32GB MicroSD card too. Though initially only 16GB cards will be available.

One small gripe I have, is that Nokia have opted to use a resistive screen rather than a capacitive screen. For such a high end phone, it seems a silly decision, as it's sure to seem sluggish when compared with the iPhone.

It appears the N97 isn't going to hit our shores though until June. Carphonewarehouse and other sources are giving the date of June 23rd as the expected release date, but who know's what could happen between now and then?

I'm really keen to learn from anybody who's got a pre-production Nokia N97.

    Nokia N97 Loaded with Skype

Internet calling company Skype has secured a deal with Nokia under which the world’s biggest phone maker will preload Skype software into some of its new smartphones starting from the third quarter of this year. Nokia is pre-installing a Skype client on the flagship N97 handset, being launched in June, allowing users to make VoIP calls without paying a penny to the network operator who is still expected to subsidise the cost of the phone

It will also let people use Skype’s instant-messaging client. Most importantly, N97 users will be able to make free and low-cost phone calls over the Internet whether they are on a 3G cellular network or a Wi-Fi network. The Skype-to-Skype voice calls are free. And the SkypeOut service, which allows calls from Skype to landlines and mobile devices, offers low rates.

    Latest Samsung eco friendly phone

Samsung has announced its solar powered full touchscreen phone, Blue Earth, which has been developed with the aim of ensuring a sustainable environment. In keeping with Samsung’s commitment towards making eco-friendly devices, the solar powered phone has been designed from recycled plastic and has a solar panel fit on the back to charge the phone. The phone supports a special ‘eco mode’ that adjusts and sets the screen brightness, backlight duration and Bluetooth to lowest energy consumption mode. The phone supports a pedometer application called ‘eco walk’ that counts the numbers of steps taken by the user and calculates as to how much CO2 emissions have been reduced by walking and also telling the number of trees saved by the user’s decision to walk rather than use any automobile.
