HTC Rhodium Visits FCC

It looks like HTC’s Rhodium has gotten the FCC’s nod of approval. This variant of HTC’s Touch Pro2 should be available from T-Mobile, as the FCC’s documentation indicates a device that supports T-Mobile’s 1700MHz 3G band, as well as EDGE and GSM. The device should be available late spring, and will feature a revamped design, tilting keyboard and 3.6-inch display with 480 x 800 resolution. Other features of the Rhodium include Windows Mobile 6.1, GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a 3.2-megapixel camera.

Nokia N97 release date

I've been watching this one closely. From the moment Nokia announced the Nokia N97 I've been eager to get my hands on one. The spec got me salivating. Check this out:

  • 5.0 Megapixel Digital Camera with Carl Zeis lens and duel LED flash.
  • 32GB Onboard Memory!!!
  • Wi-Fi Connectivity.
  • Assisted GPS.
  • HSDPA.
  • PUSH Email
  • TV-output, Video Player, and Video Recorder.
  • Full-Size slide out QWERTY Keyboard.

  • 32GB onboard memory, that's amazing, even twice the size of the largest iPhone available. Apparently it will also be capable of accepting a 32GB MicroSD card too. Though initially only 16GB cards will be available.

    One small gripe I have, is that Nokia have opted to use a resistive screen rather than a capacitive screen. For such a high end phone, it seems a silly decision, as it's sure to seem sluggish when compared with the iPhone.

    It appears the N97 isn't going to hit our shores though until June. Carphonewarehouse and other sources are giving the date of June 23rd as the expected release date, but who know's what could happen between now and then?

    I'm really keen to learn from anybody who's got a pre-production Nokia N97.

    HTC Touch 3G shows up on Orange website

    Following on from our earlier story the HTC Touch 3G is now showing as "Coming Soon" on the Orange website.

    The Touch 3G builds on the huge success of the original HTC Touch but there's an improved specification including 3G, which was missing on the original device. There's also a 3.2 megapixel camera, WiFi, YouTube on board, GPS and the Opera web browser with a finger-friendly HTC TouchFLO interface.

    Read our full review here. You can already get the unlocked version from devicewire.com or pop down to your local Orange store to see if they've arrived on contract. Source...

    LG comes up with its KT770 Wi-Fi phone

    LG is expected to announce a new smartphone with Wi-Fi connectivity under the KT-series. Remember, the KT-series comprises Symbian S60 based devices, which would ideally mean that the KT770 should be a Symbian S60 3rd edition device. We expect this one to be announced at the MWC in Barcelona next month.

    Update: We have stumbled upon some more information about the KT770. The device will indeed run on Symbian S60 3rd edition FP2 platform and will have a QVGA display. It will also have a physical QWERTY keyboard, though we aren't sure at the moment whether it will have the 'Communicator-isque' form-factor like the KT610 or not.

Dimensions are 99.8mm x 58mm x 12.8mm weighing in at 92.5g. A few pictures after the break.

    Nokia officially released 5800 XpressMusic its first ever full touchscreen multi media phone

    Just as expected, Nokia today finally pulled back the curtains on the 5800 XpressMusic device. After nearly six months of rumors, leaks, and Dark Knight cameos, the pretty little touchscreen device once known only as the “Tube” has been made official.

    Coming sometime in Q4 2008, the 5800 will be the first handset to rock Nokia’s much anticipated S60 5th Edition platform and the touchscreen-centric UI it brings with. The spec sheet on this one is a bit of a mouthful: 3.2 megapixel autofocus Carl Zeiss camera w/ dual-LED flash, stereo speakers (reportedly nice and loud), a secondary video calling camera on the front, proximity sensor, A-GPS (w/ Nokia Maps and voice guided navigation), Flash support in the browser, WiFi (802.11 b/g), and Bluetooth 2.0 w/ A2DP stereo support, all hidden behind a 3.2 inch 640×360 haptic display. It will also be one of the first handsets to support Nokia’s all-you-can-gobble-up Comes With Music service when it lights up in 2009. Though the handset itself only totes 81 megs of internal memory, it’s expandable up 16GB by way of microSD, with an 8GB card included in the box.

    They’ve plopped a couple of new features onto the home-screen to take advantage of the touchscreen. The Contacts Bar tracks texts, photos, phone logs, and blog updates for up to four friends — which is great, if you only have four friends — while the Media Bar lets you access your favorite media with a tap or two. They’ve also added some “clever shortcuts” for common menu items. One-touch access is great and all, but the wary minimalist in me fears they’re packing a bit much into the home-screen.

    I’m intrigued by the 5800, but with the platform battle raging at an all time high, I’m much more interested in the S60 5th edition platform it runs. Peter and John of CrunchGear got to spend a a bit of time with it last night, and walked away unimpressed. Chances are, we’ll have more on this by the time it launches worldwide for around 279 EUR (about 388 USD) sometime by the end of this year. Source...

    Send MMS from the iPhone

    The iPhone does not have support for MMS messages, but in the case of Spain if it will be possible to at least send them. By implementing that Minimum Minino Sender takes the gateway of My People Movistar to send SMS and MMS.

    Therefore, it is only compatible with users of this operator, that is, if we have a free and iPhone with another operator that is not Movistar not serve us. This gateway could be used directly from the browser, but not to provide access to local files is not possible with him to attach photos to MMS.

    Asus released its all new compact P552w smartphone

    Asus has announced a new compact smartphone that can be used with only one finger: the Asus P552w. It's pretty obvious that Asus has looked at HTC's Touch for the design, but there is one difference: the P552 has GPS!

    After several cancelled devices we've finally heard some good news from Asus. With the P552w Asus is not aiming at business users, but at a younger public. The device has a lot of features this target group is probably loving, like a RSS reader, Flickr and YouTube integration.

    Asus is aiming at simplicity and control; with only one finger! The P552w can be controlled with only one finger thanks to the special developed Gester Glide Interface. This technique recognises among other things zooming, selecting, scrolling and flipping. Asus has built this technique in several applications that are provided with the device, like the news, weather expectations, EziPhoto (photo-diaslider) and EziMusic (music player).

    To make sure that the P552w is going to react quicly Asus has provided it with a 624 MHz processor. And in cooperation with the built-in GPS receiver you will always find your way home. The integrated Google Maps gets its information through a 3.5G connection, or if it's possible through a WiFi network.

    It is unknown when the Asus P552w will be in stores, just like the expected price. We do know that the device gets available in black and white. Source...

    Vertu to release its " Signature S " next month

    Filthy rich folks who have nothing else to spend their money on will be happy to know that the Vertu Signature S has just passed the FCC and will be available starting next month. This new addition to the uber-expensive collection of Vertu features quadband EDGE, dual-band HSDPA (850 and 2100MHz) and WiFi which is a first for the company that is more acclaimed for the extravagant and luxurious design of its mobile phones rather than the features it incorporates in them. It also comes with an OLED display which, at that price, should be standard now across all new models of Vertu phones.

    Of course, if your bank account can’t support a Vertu purchase, then you’ll just have satisfy yourself with pictures and images available on their website. Source...

    LG Viewty 8MP phone gets official announcement

    LG have announced the new LG-KC910, an update to the successful LG Viewty that features an 8 megapixel camera. It's not the first 8 megapixel camera to be announced, but the new LG comes with some stunning specs that in many ways blows the competition out of the water.
    More details of the LG-KC910 after the jump.

    LG-KC910 overview
    As you can see, the LG-KC910 (or LG Viewty II, as somepeople are calling it) is a touchscreen candybar phone featuring a user interface not dissimilar to that of the latest smartphones. Having a big analogue clock in the middle of a touchscreen seems de rigeur, these days, and the LG-KC910 is no different. Keeping up with the Samsungs, you could say!
    More impressive, though, is the list of features. Just check this lot out:
    • 8 megapixel camera with Schneider-Kreuznach certified optics
    • Auto-focus and manual focus
    • Xenon Flash
    • Adjustable ISO sensitivity up to 1600
    • Image Stabilization
    • Face tracking
    • Smile detection
    • Blink detection (yes, seriously!)
    • aGPS
    • Dolby Mobile
    • DivX and Xvid movie playback
    • 3" WQVGA touschcreen
    • Wi-Fi
    • 7.2Mbps HSDPA
    • Video recording up to 120fps for slow-mo playback
    Phew! That's one seriously long list of features. In fact, other than the ability to play the trumpet, I don't think there's anything they've actually missed out.
    The LG-KC910 is, quite clearly, LG's new flagship handset, and looks set to take on the Samsung Omnia and Nokia N96 head to head. Whether it'll succeed or not will be dependent largely on how well these features are implemented, as LG are renowned for making phones with a superb feature-set, but with a poor user interface, making the features almost impossible to use.
    We'll only know once we get our grubby hands on one, but fortunately we won't have to wait too long - the LG-KC910 Viewty II release date is set for October 2008, so just over a month until we find out. Source...

    Sony Ericsson officially unveiled G705

    Sony Ericsson fans have reason to rejoice this morning as the handset manufacturer has finally made its anticipated G705 official. Sure, we’ve seen and read plenty already but now we’ve got the official specs and equally as important, a time line. Here’s where it gets a little tricky; those of you who have been waiting for this sexy little slider are going to have to keep waiting. It looks like the G705 isn’t scheduled to become available here in the US until sometime in Q1 2009, though it will be released in Q4 2008 elsewhere. Some more bad news for US SE fans is that while Sony Ericsson has announced that it will issue a UMA-enabled G705u version of this handset (SE’s first UMA phone), it will be an Orange exclusive. Ok, ok. Enough bad news - now for the good stuff:
    • GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900
    • Tri-band 3G in the US version - UMTS/HSUPA 850/1900/2100
    • 2.4-inch display
    • HTML browser
    • Automatic screen-orientation rotation
    • Inbuilt aGPS combined with Google Maps for Mobile and Wayfinder
    • WiFi and DLNA certified, Bluetooth 2.0 (A2DP)
    • 3.2 megapixel camera with Photo fix and geotagging support
    • YouTube compatible - upload video directly to YouTube

    High quality pics of E-Ten Glofiish X640 smart phone

    Pocketpcthoughts.com have posted some nice pictures of the E-Ten Golfish X650. Not the worst specs in the world however it’s hardly innovative. Samsung S3C2442 400MHz CPU, 64MB RAM, 128MB ROM, quad-band GSM/EDGE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, an FM tuner, a 2.8" QVGA (240 x 320) touch screen, a 2.0-megapixel fixed-focus camera with flash, and a microSD slot. New HTC Opal successor of HTC Touch

    It looks like HTC are about to release another Windows Mobile handset, this time a replacement for the Touch. The device is code named the HTC Opal and it sports a very similar form factor to the original Touch. The brief specs are an Omap 200mhz processor, 128 meg Ram and 256 Meg Rom, WiFi b and g and Windows Mobile 6.1. No mention of GPS and definitely no 3G. It is quad band GSM,GPRS and Edge only. It will have the latest TouchFlo 3D software onboard. Looks like a strange device as it is not that different from the original Touch and the specs are definitely not a great leap forward with the 200mhz processor, 2MP fixed focus camera and 320 x 240 QVGA screen. Would have been nice to see a VGA version with a faster processor. Check out smartmobilegadgets for the full specifications. Source...

    Motorola released single mode VoWLAN phone

    What you see above is supposed to be Motorola's 'single mode' Voice over WLAN (VoWLAN) phone. In other words, this phone will let you make calls over a Wi-Fi network. It runs Windows Mobile smartphone edition and in all probability, it won't have GSM or CDMA connectivity (hence the term single mode). Motorola has categorised it under its EWP series and is expected to be available exclusively in North America. We don't have any further details on this baby. If you think you do, don't feel shy and speak up! Source...

    PRADA II Technical specifications

    We just got a heads up from one of our trusty sources, and they’ve come through with full PRADA II specs for us! In case you don’t remember, the new PRADA II handset will feature a slide-out QWERTY keyboard as pictured above. Here’s a rundown on the specs we got:

    * Quad-band GSM/EDGE, dual-band HSDPA (850MHz/2100MHz)
    * 950mAh battery
    * 240×400 3.0″ screen
    * 5 megapixel autofocus camera with flash and VGA recording
    * Bluetooth 2.1
    * Wi-Fi b,g
    * Infineon MP-EH + M180 chipset
    * Motion sensor
    * FM Radio
    * 104.5 x 54 x 16.8 mm

    Any surprises there? The 5 megapixel shooter is definitely a plus, and we can’t hate on some 850MHz WCDMA action, but we’re hoping for some major OS updates on this bad boy. Otherwise, well, it’s back to that other touch-screen handset… Thoughts?

    Thanks, Daddy G.! Source...
