How to Convert Your S60 Nokia Phone Into iPhone

Bored of the interface of your S60 device? If you have tried everything else, the wallpapers, themes and every possible customization, then one thing that you just can’t dislike is iphone look. Yes that’s right; with MyPhone installed in your S60 mobile phone you can get the look and feel of iphone right in your S60 device.

As if now there are 2 versions of MyPhone available, one for the 3rd Gen Phone like E71, N73, N81 etc and another for 5th Gen Phones like 5800XM and Nokia N97. Every possible effort has been made to make the application as close as possible to the original and they have succeeded to quite an extent. Almost all the features of the home page are found similar to that of iphone. However despite everything you should never forget that you are using an addon on your S60. You have just changed the body; the soul still remains the same.

The slide to unlock feature, Bottom Dock has also been included, just as in iphone. Moreover all the icons are same as that of the iphone, there is no difference at all. That’s not it, just as in iphone you can change the orientation of the home screen icons by tap, hold and drag. You can also do that same in your s60 mobile phone using MyPhone. MyPhone is not available as free download, the cost is $12.99 but you can download the free trial version before you actually decide to shell out $12.99.

Some other features of MyPhone:

• Notifier Icon

• Sketchpad Application

• Auto Lock

• Alternative List Mode

• FM radio

Nokia N97 vs. LG Viewty Smart: Side By Side Comparison

The Nokia N97 has been confirmed for a June release, but just today LG has announced their flagship handset for the Summer, the Viewty Smart.

Boasting an 8 megapixel camera, amazing video recording and a 3" touchscreen, the Viewty Smart certainly has the credentials to be a genuine contender. But which is better?

This table compares their specs side by side I'll leave you guys to draw your own conclusions...

The S-Class User Interface vs. Symbian S60 v5 for the touchscreens, 5MP Carl Zeiss or 8MP Schneider-Kreuznach, Nokia Maps or Google Maps for GPS...what do you think?

Me? Love the look of the N97, it just exudes luxury whilst the Viewty Smart smacks of LG Arena v2.0, but I'm trying to keep out of this one!

SMS Spam Manager - Free SMS Spam Blocker For Nokia Symbian Mobile

The name of the application speaks for itself if not completely you can easily make out what this application is all about. Sometimes it happens that you get completely frustrated by the untimely messages you receive. Sometimes late in the night when you are sleeping a sound sleep and the phone rings and what you discover is that it’s just a message. Or consider the situation when you are in office presentation and you get messages there.
To add to the frustration when you see the messages later on and discover that the messages were not from your girl friends but they were only spam or service messages. With SMS Spam Manager installed in your mobile phone you can effectively filter all your incoming SMS messages and keep a check on all the junk and unwanted messages. Sometimes SMS Spam Manager can also prove to be harmful as you may miss on an important message. Specifically for this purpose there are 6 filters included in the application. By selecting each you can selectively filter out the kind of messages you want to.

Here is information about all the modes under which you can configure your mobile phone so that you can customize the messages you want to block and those you don’t want to block.

• Accept all (inactive)
• Block all
• Accept phonebook only
• Block from black list rules
It’s quite easy to understand what these 4 filters will do when activated. If you use that fourth option you will see that there are further 3 optoins that you can configure under that option to provide a etter filter.

• Telephone number
• Prefix number
• Text match

Again I don’t think I need to tell about these sub filters as to what they do and how they function. Download SMS Spam Manager

Handy ZIP - Compress Data On Your Nokia Symbian Phone and Increase Space

All the Smartphone users experience the problem of storage space in their mobile phones. To counter this problem you have few alternatives, you can either delete junk and keep rotating the data so that you can keep what you want and delete the old junk data. Another option is to increase the storage space but it can’t go beyond the limit that can be supported by the phone. The other most likely solution is to compress the data so that you can bring in more and more new data. This compression software for symbian mobile phone is not available as a free download but its evaluation version is available as a free download and can be downloaded from the link given below. Handy ZIP comes in handy not only when you want to compress the files but it’s also useful when you are attaching files to email. When you send smaller files it will take time and obviously it will be a cheaper option as lesser data charges will be deducted.

But the limitation is that the other receiving end mobile phone also should have Handy ZIP installed so that the file can be decompressed and can be read. The application also comes in handy when you want to send many files, now you will be required to attach each file individually, that’s a lot of time wastage. Instead you can zip all the files and send them as a composite file which needs to be attached once. Moreover when you are surfing the internet and quite often you would have come across many zip files, with Handy ZIP installed in your mobile phone you can extract the files directly from internet and can excess the contents in the zip folder right away.Download Handy ZIP

Y-browser - Free File Explorer For Nokia and Symbian Phones

Don’t go by the name of the application as it gives a notion that the application is some mobile phone web browser but it’s actually not the case. Y-browser is symbian mobile phone file manager application which is available as a free download. It includes all the features that a file browser must have but at the same time what makes it different from the other file managers is that you have the option of the sending the files when you are browsing through the files.

The functionality of Y-browser has all the features of a system file manager which includes features such as copy, cut, paste, create, move etc. The good thing about the application is that you can also send a file via Bluetooth, e-mail, MMS and infrared and the same time have the option of changing the attributes of the files. This feature  include options such as hiding the file by just clicking on the text box near to the file name and recheck it again to revert the action initially done.

However this is a little drawback of the application also. Consider the example when you have put your jpg files in some folder and you have hidden the files, now hiding the files will not only prevent the contents of that folder to be barred from displaying but they also does not show up in the gallery.

Download Switch off to Automatically turn off your symbian phone at scheduled time

Switch off is an application which will prove quite useful for people having fixed schedules specially the students and working class of people. It happens on regular basis that you switch off your phone daily at the same time of even at fixed times in a day. But if you have switch off installed on your phone you don’t have to worry about switching it off, it will automatically get switched off at the preset time determined by you.

The basic functionality of switch off:

1. The time at which you want to switch off your cell phone just enter the time and enable the auto shut down option.

2. After you have enabled the option, just let the application work in the background and as soon as the preset time is reached the phone gets auto shutdown.

3. Switch off as the name indicates only has the feature to switch off the mobile phone but there is no way you can switch on your phone at pre determined time. This particular thing makes switch off just another ordinary application.

4. With no support for auto switch on of your phone, there is every possibility of you forgetting to switch on your phone after it has switched off automatically. And that is a situation which no one would like ever. There is nothing worse than missing your important calls may it be personal or business calls.

5. The signed version of switch off is not available yet and this adds to the cons of this software

Each time you try to run switch off you will get a valid certification error and to get the application working you can’t find any other way than cracking your own phone to get this self signed SIS file working. With the number of cons getting a hand over the number of pros, this tool is really not a good choice, so it’s better to search for some other working application

MobiCHM, reader support for Symbian

Apart from music and videos, one of the things for which most use the mobile library is as portable, above all in order to see things anywhere. MobiCHM is the first viewer of help files compiled in CHM format for Symbian phones, files very common in systems with Windows or Windows Mobile.

MobiCHM allowed to consult the index or the contents of the file, search or add bookmarks. The screen can be rotated to landscape mode for easy reading and supports HTML codes that typically compose such files.

The program costs 20 U.S. dollars and can try a demo version, somewhat limited in any mobile Symbian S60 3 edition.

Reset Generation: N-Gage mobile's new flagship

N-Gage hasn't really been a successful gaming console... first launched as a cell phone/Game Boy like device in 2003. than moved to be a feature on Nokia's N-series smart phones, there's a reason this is probably the first your hearing of it.

But Nokia is betting that Reset Generation is the mobile game that changes all of that. Based on much more popular video game characters Nokia didn't want to pay the rights for, Reset Generation is a parody/puzzle game. You play analogs of such favorites like Mario, Link, and Sonic the Hedghog, 12 different characters in all, as they all try to rescue their own personal princess before someone does:

"Each round of play has three phases: placing blocks, firing cannons, and moving/fighting characters. Placing blocks takes the form of laying down some very familiar tetrominoes, which can only be laid on the game board in empty spaces — making it tough to place blocks once things start to fill up. When a player has claimed spaces on the board in this fashion, they gain considerable advantages; a character will move faster over his own color, and has higher attack/defense while standing on his own squares."

The most interesting aspect as far as I'm concerned though is the marketing of Reset Generation. Rather than just sell it as a mobile game, Nokia is offering an online PC version for free that will take user input on the characters and gradually change what they say and how they act; an aspect Nokia is hoping will give RG both an initial promotional push, and longevity with fresh user-generated content.

Nokia N95 Automatic Screen Rotation

Nokia's N95 8GB has just received a new firmware update, hitting v20.0.016 this time round while offering a few bug fixes as well as optimizations. Some of the main changes include the inclusion of Automatic Screen Rotation thanks to the built-in accelerometer as well as support for more Bluetooth headsets. The built-in browser and WiFi connectivity also received some bug fixes, so in theory it shouldn't crash that often any more. I must say Automatic Screen Rotation is a small touch, but a nice one to have after experiencing it on my Canon PowerShot 720iS.
