ASUS released its P552w PDA phone with new "GLIDE" features

ASUS today launched the ASUS P552w PDA phone which features Glide – an innovative touch-responsive user interface that makes navigating and performing tasks on a mobile phone more intuitive and interactive than ever before. Equipped with a 624MHz processor and a host of market-leading features such as 3.5G HSDPA connectivity, GPS and seamless Google integration, the ASUS P552w PDA phone is a perfect fit for the rising tide of young, tech-savvy professionals who appreciate a good-looking mobile companion that packs a wealth of fun features and yet is no slouch when it comes to work.

Glide to a New Mobile Experience
Underpinning the ASUS P552w’s revolutionary touch-responsive user interface is its cutting-edge Gester technology that enables users to perform a variety of navigational actions – such as selecting, zooming, scrolling and flipping – easily through simple flicks of their fingers. Incorporated into Glide are also applications that enable users to access a wide range of functions such as looking up the latest news, checking the weather forecast, viewing photo slideshows and listening to music within a few finger taps. These applications, dubbed Multi-Home, Anytime Launcher, EziPhoto, and EziMusic, give the expression "the world at your fingertips" a whole new meaning.

Unprecedented Processing Power, Speed and Connectivity
The ASUS P552w boasts one of the most powerful CPUs (624MHz) on the market today. Apart from posting exceptional Vsbenchmark scores, the ASUS P552w’s real-world results are equally tangible – applications and games run noticeably faster and video frame rates are markedly smoother. The ASUS P552w also features 3.5G HSDPA (3.6Mbps) connectivity for the fastest Internet browsing, file sharing and TV program-streaming experience possible. Furthermore, it offers Bluetooth, WLAN 802.11b/g, GPS, USB and other connectivity standards to enable easy data transfers to and from other devices.

Deep Google Integration
The ASUS P552w features Google Maps* which not only facilitates navigation, but is capable of furnishing users with information on points of interest. The ASUS P552w’s navigation capabilities are further bolstered by a feature known as ASUS SMS Location Link. With this exclusive feature, users at two different locations can locate each other easily by sending each other SMS messages. Clicking on the URLs which are automatically embedded in the sent messages will link the phones up to Google Maps, which will then provide the users with clear directions on how to get to each other’s positions. The ASUS P552w also features a convenient Google Search Bar on the Today screen that makes it easier to perform online queries.

EziPhoto, EziMusic and Other Applications
The ASUS P552w comes preinstalled with applications that allow users to get an easy handle on entertainment. The most exciting of these are EziPhoto and EziMusic. EziPhoto enables users to flip through their photo collection with their fingertips, akin to how they would with a real album. It also has a Calendar option which organizes and displays the thumbnails of photos users have taken according to the dates in which they were snapped, allowing them to relive those moments in chronological order at a single glance. EziMusic offers an interactive interface – complete with exciting animations – for users to play and manage their music, performing each task with colorful aplomb. The ASUS P552w also houses applications that enable easy access to web content like RSS newsfeeds, YouTube movies and photos on Flickr, ensuring that users have a full complement of entertainment options to choose from while out of the house or office. Even the basic models comes with handfull of utilities.. where every mobile is turning into PDA s(personal digital assistance) with PMP s(portable media players) here comes ASUS with its stunning line of products...Asus is busy keeping everyone s attention these days with several announcements from the CeBIT IT show in Hannover. The high-end devices are Asus P560, Asus P320 also known as Galaxi Mini, Asus M536 and ASUS Lamborghini ZX1 running on 3D-like customized Windows Mobile 6.1 UI.I got impressed with GALAXI MINI and LAMBORGINI ZX1... amazing features it has got .... Asus P320 Galaxi Mini is among the smallest PocketPC phones. It's smaller than the HTC Touch and the LG KS20 beats it only by one millimeter in thickness. Asus P320 Galaxi Mini, running on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional OS. It's powered by the somewhat underpowered 200 MHz TI OMAP 850 processor and has 128 MB of ROM and 64 MB RAM.The display is again a 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen. The built-in GPS takes advantage of the SiRFstar III chipset and definitely makes it the smallest Pocket PC phone with GPS . Other goodies include Bluetooth 2.0, USB 2.0 and microSD card support. There is no Wi-Fi support however - that alone is enough to make us sad.

Ask A CellGuru: What Is PDA?

Personal digital assistants (PDAs) are handheld computers, but have become much more versatile over the years. PDAs are also known as small computers or palmtop computers. PDAs have many uses: calculation, use as a clock and calendar, accessing the Internet, sending and receiving E-mails, video recording, typewriting and word processing, use as an address book, making and writing on spreadsheets, scanning bar codes, use as a radio or stereo, playing computer games, recording survey responses, and Global Positioning System (GPS).

Newer PDAs also have both color screens and audio capabilities, enabling them to be used as mobile phones (smartphones), web browsers, or portable media players. Many PDAs can access the Internet, intranets or extranets via Wi-Fi, or Wireless Wide-Area Networks (WWANs). Many PDAs employ touch screen technology.

The term “personal data assistant” was first used on January 7, 1992 by Apple Computer CEO John Sculley at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, referring to the Apple Newton. PDAs are sometimes referred to as “Palms”, “Palm Pilot” or “Palm Tops”.

PDAs are used to store information that can be accessed at any time and any where: automobile navigation, ruggedized PDAs, medical and scientific uses, educational uses and sporting uses.

Perhaps, more than any other computer devices, the PDA lacks the fully-blown infrastructure of a Wireless Broadband network. This could be offered in future by WiMax. Nowadays prices of laptops are coming down. Though somewhat bigger in size, laptops have better visibility and are more powerful. However, the OQO Model 2 has been released as an IBM-PC compatible PDA with a USB port so that people can play computer games from ubiquitous operating systems such as Windows XP and connect typical PC peripherals. For more info about PDA visit PDA in Space.

Toshiba Portege G910, G920

Toshiba usually doesn’t make smartphones, but recently, they submitted two to the FCC. Both the G910 and G920 should run on Windows Mobile 6, QWERTY keyboard has flat buttons as well as a thick appearance which makes it bulky to fit in pockets. Hopefully the final product is better than this.

Glofiish released it latest X650 PDA

ETen has a spanking new GPS-capable PDA smartphone known as the Glofiish X650 that can currently be seen on the FCC website, indicating a release in the US pretty soon. The X650 pretty much resembles the X600, although it comes in a slightly different shade. As for its features, everything pretty much ranks the same with the X600 save for the addition of an integrated FM transmitter. There is a possibility of a VGA display, but that remains to be confirmed. Would be nice to see 3G connectivity with the X650 though. As for pricing details, well, we'll just have to wait.
