Motorola Woll

A rather weird looking phone (concept, most likely) has shown up on the Internet. There aren’t any details on it yet, aside from it being called the Motorola Woll and judging by the looks of it, don’t expect it in retail stores just yet.

Get your Da Vinci on with the Cryptex phone concept

Want to try out a phone that takes its design cues from an idea by Leonardo Da Vinci? Check out this nameless cryptex mobile phone concept. It takes the shape of, well, a cryptex, and sure enough the numbers, as well as a few keys come as part of the rotating dials.

You simply have to turn the dials towards certain directions to initiate phone calls, answer incoming ones or hang up on the other party. It’s got it’s own dock, where you’ll be able to find the “phonebook” and will also most probably be used for charging it.

The designer of this mobile phone concept had this to say about it:

You turn the dial of every element to the desired cipher. If you entered the number you turn the first segment “to phone” (green LED). If you want to hang up the call you turn the first segment to “hang up” (red LED). The phone works without buttons and without a display and based on the old dial phones.

It surely is an interesting phone concept, and when you add the fact that it also has a nice vibrating feature, it will surely be a hit with users, especially the ladies. Source...

Sony Ericsson French Luxury concept

Source of inspiration for mobile phone design is very wide, many of the world's famous buildings of the design elements have been applied to a mobile phone, but called the French Luxury like this the Sony Ericsson mobile phone concept and the practice is rare. The first thing you see it would certainly think that this model is the miniature version of the Eiffel Tower in France, is precisely because of its unique design style, but also help them become a force can not stand in the horizontal surface of the phone, models in France to mark the Independence Day. The French Luxury phones with a slightly lower angle of the screen, with speakers on both sides of the fuselage. It not only has the strange appearance, but also features a 7.2 million-pixel camera. At present, no models on the price and date of information, but think of France's independence day for the July 14, to be published for the next year. Source...

Nokia Aeon concept of touchy feely

Everyone’s getting all touchy-feely these days, the Aeon has brought feature a full touchscreen surface that does away with the standard keypad. The Nokia Aeon concept was somehow inspired by Synaptics Onyx. It is based on 2 touch sensative screens fastened together by fuel cell battery. Nokia is keen to have phones like this hit the market and also have them wearable. The 2 touch screens can act as anything you like, such as the buttons on one side, the screen on the other, or in any form you like. The handset’s connectivity and electronics are built into the panels to allow them to be used independendently. When assembled, one panel would operate as the display, the other as the keypad. Since the buttons are entirely virtual, Aeon can flip instantly between a numeric pad for dialling, a text-entry pad for messaging, or a media-player controller. It’s a cute idea and one that ties in with Nokia’s expectation that phones will become essentially “wearable” devices - if foresees users removing one of Aeon’s display panels and mounting it on a watch-like strap or worn as a badge. Likely, This concept will not be easily seen in shops soon. But NetEase site reports, Nokia researchers actually get to play with a real live Nokia Aeon model in their labs. Nokia Aeon concept phone brings about the most futuristic cellphone.

World’s longest mobile phone concept

Modern mobile phones come in many different form factors and sizes, but almost all of them have something in common - they fit in your pocket. After all, that’s what a mobile phone is about, right?

Designer Tamer Koseli seems to disagree though. He has created a concept of what has to be the longest mobile phone ever. Not only it is long enough to impress your girlfriend, it’s also very narrow (see it compared to the size of a SIM card below). The concept phone is called “Need”.
The phone has two displays - a simple OLED one which displays basic information, and a touchscreen that goes along all the length of the phone as demonstrated in the photos. You can lock and unlock the phone by sliding the first screen up and down, as shown in the first picture. The battery and connection information is only shown in the unlocked state for some reason.

Mr. Tamer Koseli also seems to have strong opinion on the functions that a mobile phone should have. His concept doesn’t include any camera, MP3 player or anything of sorts; everything is limited to communicational features only. Can’t say I disagree with him completely.

Actually creating such a phone would pose some challenges, but I bet touchscreen fans would have a blast using something like this.

Nokia Aeon may be more real than you think

Touch screen displays? New types of casing graphics? New form factors that break down a phone into several pieces? Sounds interesting. Oh, and that removable bottom part looks quite close to the Nokia interactive touch keypad we told you about yesterday.

So while we may not be seeing Nokia Aeon on sale anytime soon, the actual concept might be already producing some results that get included in Nokia phones. And, who knows, in a few years you might actually find something along Nokia Aeon lines in a nearby retail shop.

Here on UV we’ve written about quite a few interesting mobile phone concepts.

Think all of them are just a pretty drawings that won’t be actually made? Well, most of them probably are, but some of them may be a bit more then that.

Remember Nokia Aeon concept phone that made waves in the techland about 18 months ago?

We probably won’t see it in the shops anytime soon. But, if the reports of Chinese NetEase site are accurate, Nokia researchers actually get to play we a real live Nokia Aeon model in their labs. NetEase even got the pictures of one handset to prove it.

New Nokia Concepts

Nokia has recently introduced a trio of concept phones at its first ever "Design Event" in Central London today that might roll out within 3 to 5 years' time. The first of the trio is a "People First" concept that comprises of a list of people you communicate with based on your last interaction with said person, although I'm not sure where the minimum 3-year delay comes in for what seems like a pretty simple software tweak. Next up is the "Zero Waste Charger" that aims to minimize power consumption, having the device communicate with the charger to activate only when it needs power. Last but not least we have the confusing "Wears in, not out" concept which is already commonplace today. I wonder what the folks at Nokia were smoking when they came up with this statement in their press bulletin.

"As more services become available on our mobile devices this concept explores how people could potentially upgrade their devices digitally rather than physically in the future, giving people an additional choice on how they use and update their mobile phones."

Chanel Coco Concept Phone

Chanel is jumping onto the fashionable cell phone bandwagon with this concept dreamed up by Fred de Garihe. It is specially designed to function with an optical fiber system, and has enough looks to melt my heart (and bank account, assuming it ever rolls out of the factory from being a concept at this point in time). I like the way the squares slide upwards, downwards and sideways - it adds a whole new dimension. I think women will definitely prefer this over the iPhone as it resembles more like a make-up kit than anything else.

Frame Tele Concept Phone

This concept phone definitely reeks with imagination, looking like a digital picture frame and acting like one, and yet throwing in phone functionality as well. Not only do you get to view images of your family and friends in a continuous loop, it will show a previously saved portrait of whoever is calling you now. Should you fail to have an image of the incoming caller, it will revert to a pretty scenery instead. I wonder when will something like this actually be realized - it would be nice to have one of these at home to match the rest of the 21st century thingamajics we own.

More iPhone nano Concepts

Since the iPhone was released, there are certain segments who still fantasize about the iPhone nano although that doesn't look as though it will be rolling out anytime soon. Here's an iPhone nano concept for you to ponder over - using it in landscape mode will leave you with a rather wide-looking handset. I think it is best to just stick with the current iPhone design at this point in time until the folks at Cupertino think of something better. Let's not rush what is supposed to come naturally now, shall we?

Colombo Cordless Phone Concept

Check out these cordless phone concepts, known as Colombo One and Colombo Two. Designed by London-based Chauhan Studio, the former stands straight up and pays homage to the early Ericofon of the 1950s and 60s while the latter (as shown above) is more laidback, complete with cradle and all. This is one of the rare times where concept will actually turn to reality, as both handsets will be made available later this year at a modest price.

Gumball Machine Phone

Gumball Machine Phone

The Dubble Bubble gumball machine phone helps keep your kid occupied for a whole three seconds as a toy, but it can also be used as an actual phone. Whenever there is an incoming call, circus music will start playing while flashing lights get to work to add to the overall cheery atmosphere. In addition, a gumball will pop out as a Pavlovian reward, letting those with a sweet tooth to ask their friends to call them over and over again. $139 is a bit pricey for a novelty item like this, if you ask me.

Funky Mobile Concept

Funky Mobile Concept

Check out the Magic Mirror cell phone concept that hides all the internal electronics within the glass sphere, where two displays show all the relevant information when and where required.

Animated realistic changes between chronometer, magnifying glass, mirror, compass, news box, phone, media player, TV create the feeling of the following: if it is not a magic, it’s a little wonder. For example, the change to the mode of operation “ON” is dark background, the point of light at the center of opening aperture (diaphragm); then you can see the whole indicator panel of chronometer. And even the small shadow gets a move on with second hand.

I wonder how much something like this will cost should it ever be mass produced.

Motorola concept with dual stereo camera

Motorola concept with dual stereo camera

Paris-based design firm Lysandre Follet has introduced their new Motorola concept phone which features a Stereo camera. Featuring two lenses for those ultra-wide shots, and also offering Wi-Fi goodness and Bluetooth. The phone might have been more complete with an added in QWERTY slider or something, but they probably didn't want the phone to appear bloated.
