Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 gets cloning treatment from chinese copy cats

As the date of the XPERIA X1's launch comes nearer, so do the counterfeiters sitting pretty in China. What you see above is probably the first clone of the XPERIA X1, which is selling for $145 in the streets of Hong Kong and responds to the name of SongLive X1. It comes with a slide-and-tilt-display, a la HTC Tilt for comfortable TV viewing experience and comes with dual SIM card slots, which might explain the two send keys. Does everyone in China uses two mobile subscriptions -- one for the missus and one for the mistress? Source...

Nokia N97 cloned by chinese copy cats

You have to hand it to the Chinese mobile phone industry. Not content with cloning every phone that's ever made, they've now gone one better and cloned this - the Nokia N97, a phone that only exists in the rough drawings of a few patents Nokia made a while ago!Despite being given the name N97,Nokia have never said they're planning on releasing this phone. Indeed, rumours about an N97 model have been around for nearly two years, but although Nokia came close with the recently announced N96, no N97 has ever been released...

And you can see why, if this design truly reflects how an N97 would like in the flesh! Not exactly attractive is it? It's a slider with a swivelling camera unit seemingly bolted on top of it. Nobody said a clone had to be elegant I guess (or even a fictional Nokia phone!)

Apparently, this is the first time the Chinese have cloned a non-existent phone, and I suppose they've made some effort given they've only got drawings from a patent to go on, rather than the real thing. And if nothing else, it could be seen as a way of testing the market for such radical design! But really, wouldn't it be better if the manufacturers actually came up with some original designs of their own?

Chinese gave life to Nokia's super slider camera phone patent

More Meizu M8 Pictures Leaked

The Meizu M8 has been one iPhone clone that seems to be taking forever to be released. They’ve been doing their utmost best to make it the perfect iPhone clone it seems. So far it’s been all smoke and nothing substantial. According to Meizu’s website, it seems that the first cut of the M8 will arrive next month, with more pictures and details, albeit it will just feature 128MB of RAM. Come October, the real product with 256MB RAM and 8GB of storage should be available for 2180 yuan (about $320). Until then, here’s a picture of it doing its best iPhone impersonation. Source...

CECT P168: another Apple iPhone clone to add to the list

So here we have the CECT P168 which is yet another Apple iPhone clone, and I have to say this handset really does look like the iPhone. The concepts of this phone even have the same wallpaper as the Apple’s handset.

But that is where the similarities end, the CECT P168 has a 3.5-inch QVGA LCD touchscreen, and a poor 1.3 megapixel camera. Other features include dictionary and music and video player. However one thin is missing, and that is Wi-Fi and that is the big downside.

iPhone Clone Takes in 2 SIMs

Not only does this handset look like the iPhone, it even features a dual-SIM carriage so that you will be able to carry two numbers in a single handset. What are some of the goodies available in exchange for $199.67?

* 3.2" touch screen LCD display with 16:9 aspect ratio
* 1.3 megapixel camera
* microSD memory card slot
* Dual SIM carriage

I've always found dual-SIM phones to be more of a hassle than convenience - after all, you can only hold conversations one at a time, so it would be better to just carry two handsets around since you can hang up on the less important call and talk to the more favored caller.

Black 8GB Nokia N95 cloned

Black 8GB Nokia N95 cloned

The iPhone isn't the only handset to receive a clone (or two), as the newly released black 8GB Nokia N95 has just received a cloning treatment, retailing for $161.35 in the Philippines. You get dual cameras where one of them is a 2 megapixel shooter, a slide out keypad, a microSD memory card slot, Bluetooth connectivity and support for today's popular audio and video file formats. Well you can't really ask for more at that price, but do your part in the fight against piracy and pick up the real McCoy.

Meizu M8 Has New Interface

Meizu M8 Has New Interface

The Meizu M8 now sports a new interface, coming in an all-black form factor complete with a similar color scheme in the user interface. Targeting a China release this August, many people will still associate the Meizu M8 as nothing but an iPhone clone. It remains to be seen whether this accusation holds true when we actually hold one in our hands, but music addicts who are on the lookout for something fresh and different after a steady diet of nothing but iPods could do well check this out and discover something new.

Meizu M8 mini One vs. iPhone...

So we finally had the chance to lay palms to Meizu's M8 prototype. Better yet, we set it up side by side with it's muse, the Apple iPhone. Let's be clear, the prototype is not functional by any stretch of the imagination. It simply turns on and then slaps up one of three images representing the home screen, dialer, or media player depending upon which of the three physical buttons you press along the bottom of the main display. The capacitive touch panel does not work at all. While the physical components may or may not be in place, this is clearly a very early engineering sample. Having said that, Meizu claims that the hardware is complete and final -- they are only working on their Meizu OS tweaks to the Windows CE 6.0 base. However, the GUI and icon designs are pretty much locked in at this point with only minor changes expected before this hits China this August for a to be determined price. Unfortunately, Meizu is still working on their international deployment strategy (duh, they're looking to sign up distributors at CeBIT) so they are not willing to commit to any dates or prices. Gotta say, for all our justifiable M8 bashing, the mini One felt good in the hand and the additional hard buttons, 720 x 480 pixel display, 3 megapixel camera and likely el cheapo price tag have once again perked our interests. Still, it's a long way from it's original 3G HSDPA and kitchen-sink roots and a bit too late (GSM/EDGE in 6 months, Puh-leeze) at this point to be anything more than a novelty outside of China. Nevertheless, the development lifecycle has been fun to watch. Click through for the main features and specifications expected at launch. Video in a jiffy.

Update: Video now available, also of the UI.

Snes4iphone v1.0.0 Tested

ZodTTD has just released his snes4iphone v1.0.0, and the results are satisfactory to say the least. This emulator has certainly improved by leaps and bounds compared to its maiden outing, despite the fact that several gaming essentials such as missing in-game audio are still there to haunt the (cheap) player. Background music playback has been fixed though, and gameplay is said to be decent once frameskip is enabled. In addition, a cleverly implemented save system makes it a snap for you to continue where you left off while you attend to some important office e-mails.

HiPhone –Another iPhone Clone

This photo shows the HiPhone, a GSM phone that is a fairly good copy of the iPhone – from the outside, of course. The shallow geek that’s in you can get the cool - for less.

It costs $239, is unlocked (works with any GSM carrier) and does not come with a service contract. It also come with two batteries and that’s pretty much all that we know about this phone.
