The Soleus mobile OS is a spin-off of the Windows CE platform, focused on providing a lower cost solution than having the full Windows Mobile platform on your device. MSI has unveiled the first of the Soleus devices at CES, the MSI 5608. While the interface looks nothing like the WM UI, this is sure to be a breath of fresh air for those of you are are burnt out on the whole Microsoft thing.
The MSI 5608 is only a prototype device, so any specs listed should be taken with caution, as they are sure to change once the hardware manufacture gets dibs on full-blown production. As of now, the 5608 offers Asian digital television standards (1Seg or T-DMB?), GPS, a touch gesture interface, an accelerometer, quad-band EDGE, WiFi, a 2 MP camera and a 2.8", 240x432 display. The model will be released to Asian markets first, with a planned integration into US and Europe territory, perhaps even with WiMax capability.
