Third generation iPhone goes for a spin in Hong Kong?

Here’s the scenario: Two guys hit the streets of Hong Kong at 3AM in their sports car and snapped a bunch of pics of the yet-to-be-announced third generation iPhone. Sure it sounds crazy, but crazier things have certainly happened. The shots of the next generation iPhone purportedly show off the auto-focus feature of the camera, shown above (note the blue box), which can apparently be fine-tuned by touching the object of interest on the screen. Also shown is the compass application, the new battery meter with percentage, the option to copy items and the ability to send an MMS. There are no actual pictures of the phone and everything is a bit blurry which, according to the poster, was a requirement for him to be able to get his hands on this yet-to-be-released handset. Hmm. Is this a bit of trickery or are these blurrycam shots really real? You be the judge — sound off below with your critiques/comments and hit the jump for more shots.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

Rumor: New iPhone will come in six versions

we’ve been told that the next-generation iPhone will come in six versions: two storage capacities each for 3G, enhanced 3G (”3.5G/3.75G”), and mainland China versions of the phone, which will have the same size and general design of the current model, but with a less scratchable matte plastic body. Each of the three versions has been made to match the telecom systems of specific countries, so users in one country shouldn’t expect to have the option between a “slow iPhone” and “fast iPhone.” As before, you’ll get capacity options and different colors.

Rumor: New iPhone 2009 Design Found in Latest SDK

Embedded in the latest iPhone 3.0 SDK, some folks in the mactalk.com.au forum has found a “iPhone 2,1″ icon, which represents the product code for the next generation of iPhone for year 2009. If this is true, the upcoming iPhone 2009 will have a similar design as its current series with minimum changes. While the small icon didn’t reveal much in detail, this is definitely a great find for the new iPhone.

A faster 600 MHz processor, up from the iPhone 3G’s 532 MHz CPU will be included, RAM will be doubled from 128 MB to 256 MB and the storage upped from 16 GB to 32 GB. Apple prototyping "iPhone lite" and MacBook Mini / media pad for Verizon?

Hot on the heels of yesterday's reports of Apple and Verizon dealings comes some tantalizing, but still unconfirmed, new details from BusinessWeek. According to the publication, the gang in Cupertino has prototyped two devices for the carrier. The first one is a smaller, less expensive device that's been dubbed as "iPhone lite" by someone who's apparently seen it in person. The other is called a "media pad" (Joggler, anyone?) for music, photos, HD video, and placing calls over WiFi. Details are scant beyond that, and while that pad sounds a lot like an iPod touch to us, we can't help but wonder if it has something to do with those 10-inch displays that Quanta's rumored to be manufacturing. Don't put too much stock into this, as the reports could end up being all for naught, but one thing's for sure: you can bet the suits at AT&T are keeping a very, very close eye on this. In other, even sketchier and likely unrelated rumors, a listing for "MacBookMini" has popped up in Adium's statistics. While we wouldn't normally think anything of this -- as TUAW correctly notes, anyone can edit their computer IDs -- it was from these pages that we first heard the name MacBook Air. Chances are this is nothing, but with all this talk of 10-inch screens and media pads, it kind of makes you wonder.

How to repair iPhone front panel glass

Make: Repairs is a new, periodic column we're launching today, written by Kyle Wiens and the fine folks at iFixit.com. As you probably know, iFixit is the go-to source for Apple-related do-it-yourself repair info and parts and for gadget first-look teardowns. Kyle, Luke, and company are in a unique position to know what the common complaints and sticky-points are in DIY personal tech repair. In Make: Repairs, they'll provide answers to some of these more commonly-requested or gnarlier repair questions. When we asked them to come up with an idea for the first installment, they thought the iPhone front panel replacement was a natural. They say it's their most-purchased part and it's a slightly finicky repair.
So, without further ado, let's replace some iPhone glass. Replacing the iPhone front panel glass

Upcoming iPhone specs leaked -- 600MHz CPU, 32GB, 3.2MP cam?

Take this for what it is -- a totally unverified rumor from a Chinese forum -- but a set of specs for a next-gen iPhone have leaked out along with this screenshot, and they're not entirely far-fetched. According to the alleged leak, iPhone model MB717LL 9 ("iPhone2,1" perhaps?) will have a 600MHz processor (up from the current 400MHz unit), 256MB of RAM (from the current 128MB), 32GB of storage, a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus, as well as a digital compass and FM radio, all while retaining the same battery, basic shape, and screen size. Do we believe it? Well, if we were to conservatively guess at specs for a next-gen Apple phone that's pretty much what we'd come up with -- with the exception of FM -- so we're not shaking our heads too hard. Plus we've definitely seen evidence that a compass will figure into the equation, and there's endless whispers that the camera will see an upgrade. Still, only Steve and the gang know for sure, and we're (probably) not finding out till they're ready -- WWDC, are you here yet?

How To: Downgrade iPhone Firmware 3.0 To 2.x.x

Apple periodically launches new versions of iphone firmware so that the users can enjoy more benefits and more features with the added advantage of the previous bug fixes. But if you have upgraded to latest version of the iphone OS 3.0, then there is quite some probability that you will encounter an error if and only if you have used illegal means such as jailbreaking. Apple has launched this new firmware to counter the illegal use of iphone applications. Now if you encounter any problem then the only solution left with you is to downgrade to the earlier stable versions of the iphone.

Downgrade iPhone Firmware 3.0 To 2.x.x

• The first thing you need to do is to enter in the DFU mode. You can do this by switching off the iphone and pressing and holding the power and the home button for atleast 10 seconds and now release the power button but keep pressing the home button until iphone is detected as a USB by the computer.

• The conventional method is to use itunes and downgrade to the previous version of iphone firmware but this would cause some errors because iTunes is unable to restore-back from the newer 3.0 baseband.

• To eliminate this problem you will have to download QuickPWN, the download to which is given at the end of this page.

• Now install and launch the new application and use that to downgrade to the previous version of the firmware. I guess that will be all on how to downgrade iphone firmware.

The download link to the windows and the mac version of the application are given below.

ZumoDrive - Free Data Storage Online For iPhone

Supersize Me is a file sharing application which is available as a free download for iphone. The application belongs to the much sort after categories among the mobile application and that is data storage online and file sharing. However there are many other application also available but all are either not free or they don’t have features as this application. So overall it’s a nice blend of what the users want from any file sharing application and what the company has to offer at max to the users.

However the storage space of iphone is considerably large but depending upon the latest applications which are developed daily and also the personal user data stored in the phone is getting huge by every day. Hence the need for extra storage space is felt and that is provided by Supersize Me. You can upload all your mobile phone contents to a cloud and can later on download it whenever you have free space or whenever you want to use them again.

The company is offering around 1GB of storage space in the cloud but it doesn’t seem that this much space will be enough to satisfy the hunger. So if you want more, you will have to pay more. You can get 10GB of monthly space at just $2.99 and if by chance you want more then you can have 100GB of storage per month but then you will have to shell out $11.99 per month.

What I did not liked about this application is that you need a desktop or your mac book to load your data to the cloud. You cannot use your iphone to upload your files and that is a pretty serious drawback according to me.

If Found - Get Your Lost iPhone Back

Just think about your iphone or ipod touch getting lost and that will be enough to stir you. There is no way you can ever thinking of losing your device which costs in hundreds of dollars. Well, to reduce your worries and give you peace of mind a little bit though, If Found is there. If Found is a free iphone application which will increase your chances of getting your lost iphone or ipod touch back. The application is developed by polka networks which actually does what its name says. It displays an If Found message of the screen of your iphone so that the person who has found your iphone can know whome he should contact to. You can also personalize the message but the topic of argument that remains here is that why would someone return your iphone or ipod touch, a device that is so famous that it does not require any introduction to it. You really have to lucky to encounter an honest person. One you have installed the application you will see two fields you can fill up. The field bar contains you emergency phone number and the other field bar contains your personalized message which should not exceed 35 characters. The smart thing according to me will be if you put your email id in there or any of your other contact number or any means by which the founder can contact you immediately. I have seen people putting in display message such as finder’s reward but they should realize that no reward is good enough to exceed the cost of iphone.
Once you have customized all this information, you then need to customize the screen wallpaper on which you want it to display. Just set the wallpaper and hope for the best.Download if Found

Upcomming iPhone to have HD Screen ?

Will we be welcoming an iPhone HD at WWDC this June? Well, according to the various reports, someone familiar with Apple’s plans state that it’s simple to record and editing stunningly sharp video with the device, after which you’ll be able to wirelessly send it to friend or watch it on the phone’s improved screen. Might this “improved screen” be an 800 x 480 iPhone display that we’ve been dreaming about? We certainly hope this turns into a reality come June. Fingers crossed.
