I’m barely convinced countries need ambassadors, let alone cell phone manufactures; but if you’re deciding to go in that direction you can do a lot worse than a blonde, leggy 20-year-old.Cell Phone manufacture Sony Ericsson has signed tennis superstar/model Maria Sharapova to a four year deal as their first global brand ambassador, meaning she’ll star in print and TV campaigns and likely get her own Sharapova phone, if focus groups prove anyone can pronounce it.
Without Sony Ericsson releasing the financial particulars of the Sharapova signing, it’s hard to speculate whether it’s prudent investment but with celebrity mobile endorsements so often linked to singers such as Beyonce or to higher profile athletes like Dwayne Wade, it’ll be interesting to see if Maria has that kind of draw.
