Video: Nokia 6210 Navigator and its Built-in Compass

One of the Nokia devices that we spent time with at the 2008 Mobile World Congress was the new 6210 Navigator, a device slated to take over where last year's 6110 Navigator left off. The new model features support for more 3G frequency bands, which will allow the device to be configured for use in most of the world's markets, including North America.

One of the other cool new features that the 6220 Navigator has is a built-in electronic compass. That might not sound like much until you think about the difficulties one has with navigation software when travelling on foot. The new pedestrian navigation mode that the 6210 Navigator offers makes use of this compass to keep the on-screen map oriented in the correct way at all times. No longer do you have to try to figure out which street depicted on the map is the one you are looking at; the 6220 Navigator makes that obvious now. As you can see in the brief video below, when the phone is rotated, the map rotates to keep everything pointed in the right direction. It's very handy.

Another new feature that the 6220 sports is the dedicated navigation button. The blue star-like button that sits directly below the d-pad and other controls can be pressed at any time to instantly load the navigation software. On top of that, the button also lights up whenever the GPS system is activated, reminding you of its increased power draw. It's a nice touch for an already nice phone.

So check out the video below and then turn to the next page to see a few more live photos of the Nokia 6220 Navigator.
