Turn your iPhone or iPod touch into an external storage device

We kind of expected Apple to give us the ability to use our iPhones and iPod touches as external storage devices by now, but that has not come to pass. We would love the convenience of dropping files onto the iPhone to transfer them between Macs. Thankfully, Ecom Network has developed a great little utility that lets us do just that, and a little bit more. iPhoneDrive turns your iPhone and iPod touch into an an external drive so you can back up files and transfer them to another Mac. You can also use iPhoneDrive to access media files on your device such as music, videos, photos, and notes.

iPhoneDrive features:

* Simple interface
* Store any type of data
* Access your music, videos, podcasts, photos, and notes
* Copy files and folders to and from the iPhone with a single drag
* Move files between work and home
* Back up important data
* Keep useful apps and installers with you at all times
* Free demo

The latest version of iPhone drive released this week adds new functionality specifically for the iPhone. You can access the iPhone’s own call log history file and SMS text message history, and you can even view and download photos taken using the iPhone’s camera.

iPhoneDrive is Mac-only, but Windows users can try TouchCopy, also available as a free 15-day trial.
