Never miss another live concert with your friends, ever

We just discovered SonicLiving, an incredibly slick a web site that blends social networking with your local music scene. It’s a breeze to set up and a no-brainer to use. Within minutes of signing up you will find local concerts you won’t want to miss, and be able to hook up with other people who share your music taste. If you like going to concerts, you’ll want to give SonicLiving a try. And now that it offers an interface optimized for iPhone and iPod touch, there’s no reason you shouldn’t try out the free service. We really can’t recommend it enough.

In SonicLIving you create a Wishlist, which is basically a lists of music artists you would like to see live in concert. SonicLiving will scan your iTunes library and automatically add artists to your Wishlist. If you’re tired of your iTunes library, you can scan Last.fm, Pandora, or add artists manually. SonicLiving makes it easy to find artists with a built-in search function, and you can click on artists in the search results to view videos, listen to music, read related articles, and view upcoming shows.

When you find a show you are interested in, you add it to your SonicLiving calendar. If you decide to go to the show, clicking ‘Confirm’ will let your friends know that you’re going. The calendar easily syncs with iCal, Yahoo, 30Boxes, Mozilla, IE, and other calendar clients. You can also keep track of your events with RSS feeds or email updates.

SonicLiving features a ‘Shows’ view which allows you to browse upcoming events and sort them by date, popularity, featured, venue, or shows your friends have on their wishlists. Click on any show to see who’s confirmed to go to the event, read or submit posts, or even find a ticket. You can add new events to this view by using the search tool, and you can broadcast messages to your friends who are interested in the same show.

SonicLiving’s ‘Friends” feature brings social networking to concert planning. This page shows you other people from the SonicLiving community who share your interests in artists and events. Each person is automatically ranked for compatibility to you, making it easy to connect with others in your local music scene. You can add new people to your list by name or email address, or you can invite new users to join SonicLiving to hook up with you. Clicking on a person let’s you view other their calendar, wishlists, artists, and events.

SonicLiving offers some nice ways of embedding your events and wishlists into your blog, iGoogle, or Facebook. With a single click you can add SonicLiving to your Google home page or Facebook. There are also widgets available as code snippets for you to embed in your blog or web pages. We really like the poster badge widget which automatically displays a concert poster for the next concert event on your calendar.

If you’re a non-smoker don’t worry about bringing a lighter for the encore. Fire up your iPhone or iPod touch with this video of a lighter and wave it in the air to bring the band back for one more song.

Access SonicLiving on the iPhone or iPod touch by going to iphone.sonicliving.com.
