A recent tip may signify a coming price drop in the next two months. According to 9to5Mac, the discount could come as soon as late February. Additionally, the tip mentions that Apple will be dropping the 8gb iPhone in favor of higher-capacity models.
There are basically two reasons why Apple would cut prices. First, cutting prices is the only easy way (short of releasing a completely new product) of spurring new sales. Second, falling memory prices may finally enable Apple to market the iPhone and iPod touch at lower prices, and we all know what happens when Apple drops their prices even by a small margin. People react, because a price drop from Apple is as rare as a dinosaur nowadays.
