iPhone Web Apps No.11: SeeqPod

If you want some instant music blaring out of your iPhone that ISN’T in your collection, SeeqPod is genius. It’s an iPhone-friendly version of the web music search engine. You type in a band name, it serves up a list of songs culled from the Web, and you tap through to instantly stream the song of your choice using iPhone’s QuickTime player.

It’s quick and simple, and a great way to while away a few minutes. Of course, it works much better over Wi-Fi than over the mobile network, where you’ll have to wait longer for the song to start playing. Extra features are thin on the ground - you can also choose to ‘Discover’, which involves typing a band name in and getting served other stuff up that you might like. You can also listen to Popular Artists and Popular Playlists.

If you’re a music fan, the fact that services like SeeqPod are coming to iPhone is great, not least because if you hear something you really want to buy right there and then, you can check if it’s on Apple’s Wi-Fi iTunes Store. Of course, plenty of people will rather just stream and then download (legally or illegally) when they get home. Either way, as an iPhone music preview service, it’s ace.
