With the appearance of Sunspot No. 10,981 last week, scientists have announced we’re in the beginning of Solar Cycle 24, a three or four year galaxy wide weather condition, where powerful bursts of energy will shoot out from the sun and reek havoc on our electronic equipment.
And while entire cities won’t get fried like in the movie Independence Day, unfortunately, the energy storms are a risk to knock out cell phone towers and temporarily disable satellite dependent GPS devices. A study showed estimates 7% of cell phones will be effected during one of these energy storms.
