Blackberry Video Streaming Now Available With QuickPlay

QuickPlay Media, which specialises in Mobile TV and video solutions, has announced the launch of VideoStreams, which it says is the first free video streaming service for the BlackBerry (though network data charges may apply). The service features a variety of entertainment content, including music videos, comedy, horoscopes and extreme sports, and is available immediately to customers in the US and Canada.
VideoStreams is initially available on the BlackBerry Pearl 8130 Smartphone to subscribers on North American wireless carrier networks that support EVDO, such as Sprint Nextel, Bell Mobility, Telus Mobility and Alltel Wireless. Eligible customers can visit www.videostreamsmobile.com using the BlackBerry browser to download the VideoStreams application over the air and start using the service right away. Videos are streamed to the device, so there is no long wait to view the content, and unlike download services, no additional on-device storage is required. The service also includes a ‘Send to a friend’ feature that enables users to share video clips.

QuickPlay currently offers streaming audio services for BlackBerry Smartphones via QuickPlayer Audio, the first audio streaming service introduced for the BlackBerry platform. QuickPlay also offers a white-label video streaming solution for mobile operators that enables them to provide a custom, branded service to their customers with content from their partners, from QuickPlay partners, or from a combination of both.

American Idol: The Paula Abdul Stalker

Well it’s a fresh new season of the Verizon Wireless sponsored American Idol and already the audition process has produced a (rejected) diamond in the rough. But despite Randy and Simon’s assertions, the only way Paul Marturano is crazy, is crazy like a fox.

By spitting some of the clever lines ever on American Idol, Blake Lewis wishes he could write something as clever as the “chalk her” or “Peter Falk-er” lines, Marturano won on the only level American Idol truly matters: promoting the crap out of yourself.

The professional 32-year-old singer/songwriter/pianist just got the kind of national exposure most aspiring singers can only dream about and if you don’t believe it worked try to check out his website here. I couldn’t because the amount of traffic had crashed his server.

I could however access his Myspace page and apparently his sound is heavy on the Elton John/Ben Folds influence. Here he is covering Billy Joel’s Angry Young Man. You can buy his music online, and while it’s not bad; there’s nothing nearly as catchy as his ode to Paula Abdul. Maybe he should just stick to stalker songs.

Maria Sharapova - Sony Ericsson’s new “ambassador”

I’m barely convinced countries need ambassadors, let alone cell phone manufactures; but if you’re deciding to go in that direction you can do a lot worse than a blonde, leggy 20-year-old.

Cell Phone manufacture Sony Ericsson has signed tennis superstar/model Maria Sharapova to a four year deal as their first global brand ambassador, meaning she’ll star in print and TV campaigns and likely get her own Sharapova phone, if focus groups prove anyone can pronounce it.

Without Sony Ericsson releasing the financial particulars of the Sharapova signing, it’s hard to speculate whether it’s prudent investment but with celebrity mobile endorsements so often linked to singers such as Beyonce or to higher profile athletes like Dwayne Wade, it’ll be interesting to see if Maria has that kind of draw.

LawnBott 3500 cuts lawns via Bluetooth

Ever wonder why you can’t control your lawnmower with a cell phone? Yeah I know… not really.

But regardless Kyodo America thinks the concept is cool and has introduced the LawnBott 3500, a lawnmower that by using the Bluetooth in your cell phone as a remote control gives the yard a haircut. Charged with lithium-ion batteries, LawnBott is completely gas free and can run 3-4 hours on a single charge. It also features automatic shut down, rain sensors, which by the way you have as a human too they’re called eyes, and a “car alarm” like feature which will start wailing if any neighbors try to snatch it. And trust me, with a price tag of $3,249 the LawnBott 3500 isn’t something you want to buy two of.

Thought to be fair, while the price tag is steep, it only consumes $7-10 of electricity a year, mulches while it cuts, and thanks to the Adaptive Programming Technology is the only robotic mower that doesn’t require a perimeter wire.

Nokia E90 successor leaked!?!? First photos of improved Nokia E90 ??!!

Nokia E90 successor leaked!?!?
First photos of improved Nokia E90??!!

Maybe Telefon-Treff means nothing to you but I’m so proud because I am member of this nice German forum for a years and I am so happy to say that they have found something related to the upcoming Nokia E90 successor.

User NokiaN95-1 has managed to get the redesigned Nokia E90 model named as Nokia E90 v2 from the German’s T-Mobile and post bunch of photos to prove that.

I already blog about the bad build quality of some of the latest Nokia Nseries phones that seem to cripple their businesses and irritate users as well.

Also many Nokia E90 owners have reported annoying background noise during phone calls, as well as tedious keyboard issue which is caused by the keyboard construction failure and to hard material that leaves fingerprints on the screen.

NOkia e90 v2

Not sure if they are pushed by the user complains and very well known quality woes or by the upcoming competition from the Asus and Toshiba but parentally they are working on the improved E90 version that at least features better keyboard.

Not sure if this going to be just an “i” version or maybe Nokia going to introduce 8 GB edition in the E series family ;)

The handset features a stylus for use with its touchscreen, but the interface can also be controlled using a finger. The handset is black and a tad smaller than the P1. The handset has GPS inbuilt along with Opera Mobile 9 pre-installed. The handset uses the OMAP34xx hardware platform.

Video Review: Helio Mysto

Here is Phone Scoop's video review of the new Helio Mysto. You can watch it here:

Use your mobile as a wifi router

WMWifi is a cunning little app for Windows Mobile 6 that turns your handset into a portable wifi router.

Why would you want to do this? Well, apart from gaining the respect and envy of passing geeks (which should just about make up for the geekcrime of running WinMo in the first place) WMWifi will let you share your phone’s internet connection with any other wifi-capable devices within range.

At it’s simplest this will let you use your phone’s data connection with your laptop or iPod Touch. At the other extreme, you could run a whole office network through it - just be prepared for a shock when you get your phone bill.

The app is under development and there is no official documentation, although this forum at XDA Developers board has some fairly comprehensive notes with lots of tips provided by users.

WMWifi is available from here and is free for non-commercial use.

Yet more web-based VoIP iPhone chatting with FreeRing

Despite the fact that the forthcoming iPhone/iPod Touch SDK will probably change things a good deal, it seems that web based apps for the devices are still thriving. One of the latest to launch is RingFree a browser based VoIP service that allows you to navigate clients such as Google Talk, Yahoo! Messenger, MSN and apparently a few other IP based communication services too.

The service is also compatible with SIP systems (Session Initiation Protocol) meaning that if you have a subscription to such a service (more likely in the US) then you can use that via your iPhone with RingFree.

Of course RingFree is competing for space with several other similar services but as far as we are concerned, the more of these sorts of programs are available the better.

Managing messages with mVisualVoiceMail for Windows Mobile

If you receive your voicemail as an email attachment (this is fairly common on corporate voicemail systems, less so on mobile contracts.) mVisualVoicemail for Windows Mobile & PocketPC is a useful way of organising your incoming messages.

The app works with Pocket Outlook by harvesting all the incoming voicemail attachments and displaying them in a list with the time of call and contact details of the sender (if known).

You can then scroll through the list, listen to messages and either call back, email or text a reply with one button push (or screen tap).

mVisualVoicemail supports all the common voicemail codecs as well as a few of the more obscure formats that cannot otherwise be played using Windows Media Player.

Available here for $24.95 with a free trial download.

The world’s first texting seal

And now time for a heartwarming story about a texting seal (yes seriously). An orphan newborn seal named Victoria was recently rescued from rough seas near the island of Tinos.

After a short stay with Society for the Study and Protection of the Mediterranean Seal (Mom) the little mite will be returning to the big drink on Saturday equipped with a souvenir from her human rescuers, a mobile phone.

As you might expect, it isn’t a Nokia N95 what with sea based mammals having little cause to watch YouTube videos and all. The device will merely be a transmitter that sends regular texts to Victoria’s rescuers, letting them know where she is and how deep she has been diving.

According to one MOm staff member, text tech is considered to be more reliable than satellite monitoring. The Mediterranean Sea must have great reception.

Zumobi to be adopted by Windows Mobile

The makers of Zumobi have entered into an agreement with Microsoft that will see their novel, tile-based mobile browser appearing on WIndows Mobile 5 & 6 handsets.

Zumobi is a sort of combined portal-cum-rss reader that fetches web pages and massages them to mobile-friendly dimensions, browsable by a unique tile-based interface. When we last took a look at Zumobi here at Pocketpicks we were impressed by its looks and ease of use but worried about a lack of content and customisability.

There is no word yet on whether Zumobi will be appearing as just another bundled app or if it will end up being a major part of the future Windows Mobile interface. The fact that it looks a bit ‘iPhoneish’ at first glance might point towards the latter, if you were a cynic.

When we took a look at the beta version of Zumobi, they were touting its targetted advertising ‘features’ - fingers crossed Microsoft don’t decide that ads are the killer app that WinMo needs to take on Symbian and the iPhone.

Makayama adds (expensive) voice recognition to (jailbroken) iPhone

Considering the iPhone SDK is just around the corner, it seems logical that the days of the jailbroken iPhone are numbered. Why hack your iPhone to run illegal apps when perfectly legal versions that do the same things will be available soon (actually, don’t answer that)?

Even so, Makayama is not only still churning out applications for the device at a rate of naughts, it is also charging for the things too. Still that is not to say that the applications, pricey though they are ($28 for this particular one), are not worthy.

The latest for example adds voice recognition functionality to the device, a feature that many thought would be a no-brainer but was nowhere to be seen at launch. Voice Dial 1.0 allows you to voice dial (duh) and use voice prompts to open applications or bookmarked sites in Safari. Clever stuff though likely to be available for free/cheaper and legally within the next few months. If you are just too impatient however, your solution has just landed.

Nokia thinks outside the box with virtual keyboard patent

No matter how advanced phones become the one thing that will always separate them from their laptop cousins is the presence of a full size QWERTY which is why so many handset manufacturers are continually looking for a decent workaround.

The latest king of lateral thinking is Nokia, an accolade earned by an innovative new patent that has surfaced. The patent suggests an augmented reality approach, which is much more simple than it sounds. The idea is that you prop up your phone in front of you (on a supplied cradle) and on the screen will be a picture of the surface behind the device supplied via the camera on the back. Superimposed on the surface in the onscreen picture will be a full QWERTY keyboard and the idea is that you type on the surface using the screen as a reference for the keys while the phone takes note of the position and sound of your fingers to understand what it is you are typing.

Apparently the system would work with just one hand when there is no appropriate surface available (typing on your knee for example) and you can even simulate the sound of the tapping with your voice if you like. We don’t quite understand that last bit but everything else about this idea seems pretty ingenious. Whether Nokia will implement this tech in may of its handsets remains to be seen but a ten out of ten for thinking outside of the box (quite literally) is deserved here.

Nokia N82 mobile phone review , Can this better the N95?

Nokia's flagsip mobile phone is the N95 8GB, but that still hasn't stopped the Finish company from launching the N82 a pseudo N95 with a focus on the digital camera elements rather than an overall multimedia device. But is it just a candy bar version of the N95? We get phoning to find out.

Described as "the latest multimedia computer optimized for photography, navigation and internet connectivity" the Nokia N82 is a candy bar handset that comes in a plastic and metal finish. Dimensions are 112 x 50.2 x 17.3 mm while it weighs 114g slightly lighter than the N95.

Tech specs include A-GPS, a 5-megapixel camera, Xenon flash, Carl Zeiss optics and internet connectivity alongside HSDPA and Bluetooth connectivity.

The design, which is large and fat is also confusing to use with too many menu shortcut buttons cluttering the keypad. Do you really need two dedicated menu buttons for example? In fact there are 12 shortcut keys beyond the 12 numeric keys, all of which are fiddly and like Sony Ericsson's W880 prickly to use.

If that wasn't enough buttons for you, then there are a further four buttons on the top side for the camera function and that's not including the on/off switch or the lens cover slider for the camera.

Compared to the iPhone's four buttons, the tally of 29 is impressive.

Get past the buttons and the, in our mind, ugly design, and you've got the Symbian S60 software interface as found on most of the Nokia N series handsets.

With two menu buttons you have two ways of looking at the applications in addition to the home page and you can either opt for a rotating page system (which works like Apple's Coverflow interface) or for the more traditional amongst us via icons in a grid formation.

Applications of note here are the A-GPS and preinstalled Nokia Maps that allow you to find your way around and users can buy additional features, such as city guides and longer subscription to the navigation.

The A-GPS works extremely well in locking on to a GPS signal when you are in doors and compared to the first N95, finding where you are is a lot quicker.

Additionally maps have now been stored on the device from the start meaning you don't have to download as you go, again speeding up finding directions and you can get voice guidance so you don't have to look at the small screen to know where to turn next however this is an optional paid for extra.

Map excerpts and routes can be sent to friends by MMS or users can save map screen shots to the gallery.

Like the Nokia N95, one of the main reasons to get the N82 is the 5 megapixel camera. Exactly the same as the N95 the only difference here is the inclusion of a Xenon flash, the same as the Samsung G800, and picture quality was good.

The camera is more responsive than the first N95, comes with autofocus with a dedicated autofocus assist lamp, fast reloading between shots and DVD-like quality video capture however it doesn't have an optical zoom as found in the G800.

Thanks to the 2GB microSD card in the standard Nokia N82 box, you can store up to 900 high-resolution photos or up to 84 minutes of high quality video on the device, although customers opting for the N95 8GB will clearly be able to store more of everything.

Like the N95 the N82 has Wi-Fi connectivity and one-click upload to online communities allowing you to share content to flickr or Vox.

Games wise the phone supports the N-Gage platform and games are vastly improved on previous efforts from Nokia outside of the N-Gage handsets however we found it frustrating that you aren't able to opt to rotate the screen to play landscape.

The N82 is best described as the bastard child of the N95 and not really an improvement on the N81. This is Nokia packaging its current lineup of phones in a different form factor and adding a Xenon flash rather than offering anything new and improved.

Where the phone fails even further is that the repackaged exterior isn't actually that nice or easy to use either. Like the Sony Ericsson W880 the keys are prickly to use and the overall build quality compared to other handsets in this sector isn't that great either.

If you want a Nokia with a 5 megapixel camera you would be better off, in our minds, going for the N95. It's got a lot more going for it.

Samsung's 5 megapixel G600 cameraphone - IN PINK!!

Now, THANK GOD, there's no need to sacrifice a shade of Pepto-Bismol for superior snapping on your camera phone. Samsung has announced that they've got the first 5 megapixel camera phone, based on their successful G600 model (which it kind of looks like they kept the top panel of...).

It's got a massive 2.2-inch display, as well as MP3 functionality. As exciting as this is, it's slightly undermined by the fact that Samsung has since announced the G800, which is the first camera phone with optical zoom - why couldn't we have that one in pink?

If you are in the market for a pretty pink snapper, you can get this from January i.e. now, from O2, Orange, Carphone Warehouse and Phones4U. I wonder if Mario Testino ever used a pink camera...

SNES emulator for iPhone

We already knew the existence an emulator of NES for iPhone, which we were proving in iPod touch and although it worked correctly, the handling of the controls in a touch screen was not most suitable. I imagine that it happened to him the same to snesîPhone.

It is an emulator of the Super Nintendo, one of the consoles that I have more liked of the Japanese manufacturer. At the moment we must ourselves conform to seeing it in video, unless we register ourselves in the photos of ZodTTD and make a donation, with which we would happen to be betatesters.

To see if they publish it and we have the opportunity to prove his operation, because the dot is excellent.

Toshiba Portege G910

Next to the G710, the Toshiba Portégé G910 will also arrive, very focused to being able to work with him of comfortable form, almost, almost like in a portable one.

Cradled we opened the phone we were with a screen of 3 inches with resolution 800 480 xs píxeles, which is tactile. In addition, it has diverse options of connectivity: EDGE, HSDPA and Wi-Fi, reason why the connection to Internet is assured.

A camera of 2 megapíxeles and a receiver GPS do not need to be able to orient to us in any place. We will be able to reproduce audio and video, or storing them in its 256 MB of internal memory or in cards microSD.

All these functionalities have a price to pay, the high weight of the terminal, 183 grams. It is put on sale during the first 1st quater of the year.

Sony Ericsson R306 - mobile phone meets portable radio

Sony Ericsson is hitting emerging markets with two new handsets, both of which have a radio central to the handset - the R300 and R306.

The R300 is a candy bar handset, while the R306 (above) is a clamshell, both of which have external speakers for playing the radio - in the case of the R306, in stereo. The radio also has presets, an alarm, radio recording and TrackID.

Phone-wise, both have Bluetooth and a camera - VGA on the R300, 1.3MP on the R306. Both are available in a choice of colours from the middle of 2008.

AT&T, the big winner of 2007 Q4

While many companies are in the red after a potentially disastrous performance in the last quarter of last year, including Sprint, who recently talked about the possibility of lay-offs, it would appear that AT&T was the big winner of the ending round of 2008. In a performance that was decidedly helped by the acquisition of Apple's iPhone, AT&T showed a record breaking quarter with 2.7 million new wireless customers. Many seem to have made the jump from Sprint to AT&T in the search of greener pastures. Many were just psyched for the iPhone.

Just as we predicted yesterday, Sony Ericsson has made an announcement today introducing their T270 camera phone and the cameraless T280 phones, and a duo of new radio phones, the R300 and R306. The two T-Series devices are thin (0.5 mm) candybar phones which focus on basic web browsing and calling, both with Bluetooth support and two-tone color design. Instead of a camera on the T280, users get a FM radio with RDS station data support. Both which will be available in March.
The new R-series phones focus on radio, rather than music, for developing areas where radio is still the major form of communication. Both models offer fast access to their AM/FM radios and buttons for tuning presets to favorite stations. 3D sound effects and a volume boost feature allows users to use the built-in speakers for general use. The R300 is a candybar shaped phone with a simple VGA camera. The R306 offers a flip design, larger speakers, and a more advanced 1.3 MP camera. The R300 ships first this spring, while the R306 launches this summer.

How to Unlock or Hack memory card when you forgot your memory card password.

Some times it happens that you forgot the password of your memory card and you have lots of your important data in your phone.

So there are two types of methods for recovering the password of your memory card with the help of nokia phone.

For Nokia s60 1st and 2nd edition phones.

For Nokia S60 3rd Phones, Nokia N-Series and Nokia E-Series

There is almost no way yet known to hack the memory card password in case of these types of phone but there is a way to do it some of the s60 3rd edition phones and almost all the E-series phones.

The remote lock option in E-Series phone allws you to unlock your phone by sending a sms.

The only thing you have to do is to activate this feature by going to Tools | Settings | Security | Phone and SIM | Allow remote lock menu. The password of your memory card will be your remote lock message.

So you have to just send a sms containing your remote lock message that will automatically change your memory card passsword.

How to automate the some dailing sequences when you dial customer care or any other computerized system

How to automate the some dailing sequences when you dial customer care or any other computerized system

Yes , you heard me right you can simply automate most of your operations like talking to a customer care representative.

Lets first analyze what happened when you dial your customer care you want to directly talk to customer care representative and you want to cut out the crap that you have to listen and press the corresponding keys on your phone to go forward.

So when you dial number, +12345678, followed by “p” character, which means pause. The “p character will pause the dial sequence for 1 second“. If you find 1 second is not enough, you can enter more “p” characters

If you want to automate the call and don’t want to press the keys do it this way.

Lets assume that your customer care no is 1234 and the combination of keys you have to press is 1120

So to automate this process type 1234p1p1p2p0 and press the dial button you will be directly routed to the customer care representative ,you can use this procedure to answer any automated system.

Transfer contacts from a nokia s60 phone to s40 symbian phone

Anyone may have to transfer the contacts from one phone to another phone, if your old phone is malfunctioning or in a case when you may want to change the mobile phone model.

Latter is the case is with me as I want to change my mobile phone from Nokia 6600 to Nokia 5310. So ,now for transferring the contacts from nokia 6600 to nokia 5310 I searched almost every method and software but, still none of the software work for me as both of the above phones have a different base operating system.

But finally I had to use one the worst ways out for transferring contacts i.e using a sim card for storing the contacts.A normal sim card can hold around 250 contacts so depending on the number of contacts you may need one or two sim card.

In order to transfer the contacts follow the process below

1. Go to your phone contacts and copy all the contacts to sim card.

2. If your contacts are greater than the memory size of the sim card ,first check upto which contact it got transferred to sim card

3. now insert the sim card in the new s40 phone and copy all the contacts from sim card to phone memory.

4. Repeat the steps until you are able to transfer all the contacts.

5. I know this process is really cumbersome but unfortunately this is the only way out.

MyLocation feature on Google Maps to GSM Treos by third-party application

Razix is an independent developer of Palm OS, and has enabled owners of older GSM Treo handsets such as Treo 600, 650, and 680, so they can now use the pseudo-GOS MyLocation app on Google Maps; you will need an up-to-date version of Google Maps on your smartphone.

You can download this new application for free; however the developer will accept any and all donations, so if you think maybe this app will do the job for you why not help Razix out and donate some cash in appreciation for his work.

New Apple iPhone application release called VoiceDial: speech recognition

We love new Apple iPhone applications and this brand new one is pretty damn cool as so is the price, yes finally at last you can have speech recognition for the iPhone where dialing numbers on your device is no longer needed, all you need to do is dial the numbers without looking at the screen.

Apparently it is much faster than the touch screen and much safer in your vehicle, this is all possible thanks to Makayama who are the ones that have released this iPhone app called VoiceDial.

The name gives it away really we think, but basically as the name says its adds voice dialling feature to the iPhone. It also lets users start applications and open Safari bookmarks without touching their handset.

Many apps for the iPhone are free but this one is not, it will cost you a cool $27.95 or 19.95 EUR in order to download VoiceDial, what you waiting for, get more info and download option here.

Strange and sometimes useful Python apps for S60 3rd Edition

Nokia released a port of the popular scripting language Python back in 2005 in an attempt to stimulate development for the S60 platform and provide a way of rapidly prototyping apps.

Since then, the language has really taken off with amateur developers. Its easy to learn and there are several powerful libraries of code around that make it relatively easy to write apps that use advanced features like the Nokia N95’s accelerometer.

One developer, Ariek, has made a name for himself writing apps that make ‘interesting’ use of this particular feature. We have previously covered his spirit-level hack pyPoziomica, but he is also responsible for the mobile magic trick pyMoneta, which has to be seen to be believed.

More usefully, pyGenerator is a simple speaker testing app and ListSMS lets you export your text messages to a text file.

Here is a look at perhaps his most useless app to date - pyPiwo, the ‘beer generator’.

Mobile Fun to offer burial service for old handsets with trapped ‘zen’

A UK based ringtone and mobile accessories company called Mobile Fun (apparently the nation’s leading site of its kind) has announced a new burial service for mobile phones that have been put out of commission.

The service invites customers to post their old handsets to Mobile Fun Limited afterwhich for a small fee (though £20 isn’t that small in our book) the old phones will be taken and buried in Russia, slap bang in the middle of Kursk Magnetic Anomaly. The idea is that the magnetic components of the old phones won’t cause any electromagnetic pollution, as it will be lost in amongst the high levels that are already present naturally.

The really strange bit comes from Mobile Fun’s newly appointed Head of Mobile, Ruslan G Fedorovsky, who commented:

There also is an interesting, although controversial idea increasing in popularity amongst Russian mobile phone users that over time, some personal electromagnetic ‘zen’ becomes trapped inside old mobile phones.

Mobile Fun is even offering to have your phone send your new handset a final goodbye text (for an additional £5) before it is committed to the ground. It all sounds a bit hocus pocus to us, but if people want to spend £25 on giving their deceased handset a proper send off, then far be it from us to judge *coughNUTTERScough*.

Trip Tracking with GPSed

GPSed is billed as ‘a location based service for trip tracking’. What this means in practice is another GPS-aware mobile app that connects to a web service.

There are versions of the app for Symbian, Windows Mobile/Pocket PC, Blackberry, Palm OS and Java that can work with either built in or external GOS units to track your movements in real time, updating a database on the GPSed site and displaying your progress via Google Maps.

In other words, this is Nokia Sports Tracker, but with the emphasis on travel and geo-blogging, rather than sweaty trainers and number crunching performance stats.

Once you have recorded your ‘tracks’ the site makes it easy to share them with family and friends and will even offer a real-time view of your position on the map.

GPSed also provide a windows photo album that associates photos with geo-data and displays them with a nice ‘pin board’ metaphor via Google Earth. This is currently offline-only but there are apparently plans to let users share geotagged photos via the GPSed site.

iPhone Web Apps No.11: SeeqPod

If you want some instant music blaring out of your iPhone that ISN’T in your collection, SeeqPod is genius. It’s an iPhone-friendly version of the web music search engine. You type in a band name, it serves up a list of songs culled from the Web, and you tap through to instantly stream the song of your choice using iPhone’s QuickTime player.

It’s quick and simple, and a great way to while away a few minutes. Of course, it works much better over Wi-Fi than over the mobile network, where you’ll have to wait longer for the song to start playing. Extra features are thin on the ground - you can also choose to ‘Discover’, which involves typing a band name in and getting served other stuff up that you might like. You can also listen to Popular Artists and Popular Playlists.

If you’re a music fan, the fact that services like SeeqPod are coming to iPhone is great, not least because if you hear something you really want to buy right there and then, you can check if it’s on Apple’s Wi-Fi iTunes Store. Of course, plenty of people will rather just stream and then download (legally or illegally) when they get home. Either way, as an iPhone music preview service, it’s ace.

Symbian worm spreading in the wild

Security consultants Fortinet are reporting a new SymbianOS worm that seems to be spreading ‘in the wild’.

The worm, dubbed SymbOS/Beselo.A!worm is targeting S60 devices, including the Nokia 6600, 6630, 6680, 7610, N70 and N72.

The worm is spread by a .SIS file (an S60 program) disguised as an mp3, jpg or realmedia file that is downloaded or received via MMS. Once opened, the worm installs itself and starts trying to spread by sending a copy of itself via MMS to contacts from the infected phone’s addressbook.

Interestingly, the worm also randomly generates some numbers from a Chinese mobile network and tries to send itself to them as well.

Fortinet’s own anti-virus product will remove the infection (presumably other mobile antivirus companies will release updates to cover it as well - check with your vendor). The simplest way to check if you have been infected is to look for any unexplained MMS in your sent box.
